Puerto del Rosario and Arrecife Ports Closed as Storm Claudia Hits
The capital port will remain closed from 3 a.m. on Thursday until 6 p.m. the same day.
A strong southwest storm, expected to hit the island Fuerteventura from the early hours of Thursday, has triggered alarms over the likelihood of heavy rain, very strong winds, occasional thunderstorms.
Port Police sources announced that the pier in Puerto del Rosario will be closed from 3 a.m. on Thursday, 13 November, until 6 p.m. the same day, suspending all operations of cargo ships, cruise liners, and other vessels.
The meteorological cocktail, combined with a rough sea coming from the south‑southwest, has put the Provincial Port Authority on high alert, leading it to halt boat traffic at the ports of Puerto del Rosario and Arrecife. The Maritime Captaincy issued a navigation‑closure recommendation, which the port authority has adopted.
This situation is unusual and indicates the forecast of a strong influx of the low‑pressure system early Thursday morning.
