Puerto del Rosario Boosts Security Over Two Years, Says Interior Ministry
Capital consolidates two consecutive years of security improvement and reduction of criminal offenses
The Puerto del Rosario City Council positively welcomes the latest figures from the Ministry of the Interior’s Crime Statistics System, which confirm a second consecutive drop in criminal offenses in the municipality. According to the report covering the first nine months of 2025, Puerto del Rosario recorded a 2.2 % decrease in total criminal offenses, falling from 1,995 to 1,951 known incidents. This trend continues the downward trajectory that began in 2024 and shows that municipal policies on prevention, coordination, and resource reinforcement are delivering sustained results.
In the breakdown by offense type, the Ministry’s data reveal notable declines in crimes that directly affect daily life and the perception of safety, such as:
- Thefts: ‑16.1 %
- Burglary of residences: ‑25 %
- Assaults and fights: ‑14.6 %
- Sexual freedom offenses (overall): ‑3.1 %
“This continued improvement is no accident; it is the result of serious, constant, and coordinated work between administrations and security forces, with greater police presence, more resources, and a clear prevention strategy,” said Mayor David de Vera.
Mayor de Vera expressly thanked the daily effort of the National Police, highlighting “the exquisite coordination we maintain permanently with the Puerto del Rosario Police Station, which is key for actions to be more effective and faster.” He also praised the Civil Guard for “its collaboration in the various security and prevention devices deployed in the municipality, especially those requiring territorial and island support.”
The mayor further recognized the work, effort, and dedication of the Local Police, which remains an essential pillar for everyday safety in neighborhoods and the urban core. He gave a special mention to Inspector Pedro Gordillo, describing him as “a professional and human reference in this municipality, who has devoted his entire career to guaranteeing the safety of Puerto del Rosario, with an exemplary commitment to coexistence, social peace, and public service.” Gordillo’s role has been pivotal in modernizing the local force and fostering a police presence close to citizens.
Looking ahead, de Vera announced that the City Council will continue to strengthen the Local Police’s human resources:
“We must keep incorporating new officers. We have planned the addition of seven positions, with the possibility of expanding to twelve new officers to meet the municipality’s growth and consolidate this positive trend.”
“Our goal is for citizens to live with peace of mind. That is why we keep investing in human and material resources, modernizing the Local Police and reinforcing cooperation with the National Police and Civil Guard, as well as other emergency services.”
Measures Implemented in the Last Two Years to Strengthen Public Safety
Municipal video‑surveillance system in the urban area
In November 2024, a network of cameras was installed at strategic points throughout the municipality, linked to a control room at headquarters to support preventive and intervention tasks of the Local Police.Expansion of camera coverage in neighborhoods and residential zones
During 2025 the system was extended with new installations, including seven cameras in El Matorral responding to resident requests and improving coverage in transit areas and public spaces. Additional cameras were also placed in socially and patrimonially valuable municipal sites such as the El Charco/Hornos de Cal area to deter vandalism.Reinforcement of mobile units and patrols
The fleet of the Local Police was renewed and expanded with five new motorcycles designed for urban mobility and broader area coverage, shortening response times and enhancing proximity patrols.Improved inter‑administrative and operational coordination
In 2025, technical working groups and coordination tables were activated with the Island Directorate of the State and security forces to analyze incidents, identify sensitive points early, and design specific operations.Modernization of emergency and rescue resources
Alongside police reinforcement, the City Council acquired new emergency equipment, including technology for maritime interventions and rescues, increasing response capacity to incidents and risky situations.
Commitment to Prevention and Coexistence
The Puerto del Rosario City Council reiterates its commitment to a citizen‑centered security model based on prevention, proximity, useful technology, and institutional cooperation, strengthening street presence and responding to community demands.
“Puerto del Rosario is proving that when security is invested in a planned manner and people are listened to, results arrive and endure,” concluded Mayor David de Vera.
