Puerto del Rosario launches digital assistant that answers tourists in eight languages

Puerto del Rosario unveiled its new intelligent tourism assistant, ALIRA, on Thursday, January 22, during FITUR 2026. The launch took place at the stand of the Association of Canary Islands Tourist Municipalities (AMTC). ALIRA—an acronym for Local Intelligent Assistant of Resources and Attention—is a 24/7 digital tourism office designed to provide official, locally‑focused information in real time.

Where and How to Use ALIRA

ALIRA is already live on the official tourism website discoverpuerto.es and can be accessed from any internet‑connected device. No app download or prior registration is required. Users interact via text or voice directly in the browser, and the system automatically detects the visitor’s language, offering contextualised municipal information instantly.

A Digital Tool Tailored for Visitors and the Municipality

Unlike generic chatbots, ALIRA is built exclusively for Puerto del Rosario. It has been trained on official local data, enabling natural‑language conversations that understand context and deliver precise answers.

Key features include:

  • Multilingual support in Spanish, English, German, French, Italian, Polish, Danish and Dutch, with automatic language detection from the first message.
  • Real‑time contextual information such as opening hours, event details, and local regulations.
  • Geolocation and distance calculations to guide users to nearby attractions.
  • Personalised route generation for walking or driving tours.
  • Voice interaction, allowing hands‑free use while exploring the town.

Own Infrastructure, Public Control and Privacy

ALIRA runs on a dedicated municipal data centre that is isolated from external, unauthorised content. The assistant only replies with information that has been explicitly added to its knowledge base, guaranteeing the use of verified, official sources.

Regarding privacy, ALIRA does not collect personal identifiers, does not require user accounts, and any location data shared during a session is automatically deleted after a maximum of 12 hours.

A Living Platform That Learns Continuously

The system is continuously refined through daily human reviews of user interactions. Conversations reveal new visitor needs and recurring topics, which are incorporated into the knowledge base after validation.

A newly introduced feature is the “Perfect Day” planner, which creates full‑day or multi‑hour itineraries that blend gastronomy, culture, heritage, beaches and activities, offering an integrated experience of the municipality.

Second Phase: Local Gastronomy and Commerce

During the presentation, officials announced a second development phase that will open a web platform for local businesses. Restaurants, shops and service providers will be able to upload their own information, which, after municipal review, will become part of ALIRA’s content. This will enable the assistant to recommend local establishments contextually, directly linking tourism with the island’s economy.

“With this presentation at FITUR 2026, Puerto del Rosario strengthens its tools to improve the visitor experience. ALIRA joins other municipal initiatives such as gastronomic markets, SICTED certification, sports tourism promotion, augmented‑reality projects, and our commitment to accessibility and sustainability,” the City Council stated in its official release.

ALIRA represents a significant step forward in Puerto del Rosario’s Smart Tourist Destination strategy, reinforcing the municipality’s effort to combine technology, culture and local commerce for a more seamless and sustainable tourism experience.
