Puerto del Rosario Sets Night and City Taxi Shifts While Addressing Sector Concerns

The Town Hall of Puerto del Rosario has launched a consultation process with the taxi sector to agree on a service schedule that will govern the activity in the municipality until the end of 2026, prioritising coverage both in the city and during night hours.

The decision was taken in an extraordinary, urgent meeting of the Taxi Board held in the plenary hall of the Town Hall, with participation from sector representatives and municipal officials. The council noted that the consultation aims to resolve a long‑standing problem of non‑compliance by part of the sector with the conditions required for public service, especially regarding operating hours and pickup zones.

Mandatory Shifts and PMR

As an immediate measure, the Taxi Board agreed to keep, for the coming month, the same quadrant format that was applied in December, designating the city and night shifts as mandatory, while all other shifts will be considered non‑mandatory.

For the night service, each shift will include three conventional licences and one adapted for persons with reduced mobility (PMR), with the remaining licences reorganised to ensure full coverage and eliminate free shifts.

“Taxi is an essential public service for our municipality,” said Mayor David de Vera, stressing that its organisation must meet the needs of both professionals and the travelling public.

Transport councilor Luis Chacón added that the council’s main criterion is to guarantee taxis are always available in the city and at night, and highlighted that the consultation will allow professionals to take part in defining the quadrant.

Consultation Timeline

A unanimous agreement was reached to start a consultation process among taxi drivers to shape the service quadrant. The initiative will gather proposals and opinions from the drivers themselves to optimise shift distribution and ensure an adequate service for citizens.

  • Taxi professionals may submit quadrant proposals by the set deadline via the Transport department’s email.
  • A technical assessment of the submissions will follow, and proposals that meet legal criteria will be published on the website www.puertotaxi.com.
  • A provisional list of licence owners with voting rights and the employee representative will be released, after which any issues will be resolved and a definitive list published.
  • The vote will be held in the evening in the Town Hall’s plenary hall, with results posted on the website shortly thereafter.

The quadrant resulting from this process will remain in force until the end of 2026, as announced by the council.
