Puerto es Poesía Marks 10 Years with a Recital This Tuesday, Sept. 2
Cecilia Domínguez Luis and Ricardo Hernández Bravo headline the event, starting at 8 p.m. at the Casa de la Cultura in the island’s capital, as part of A Contracultura
‘Puerto es Poesía’ turns ten and will mark the milestone with a recital on Tuesday, 2 September, beginning at 20:00 hours in the Casa de la Cultura of Puerto del Rosario. The Canary Islands Literature Prize winner Cecilia Domínguez Luis and the island‑born poet Ricardo Hernández Bravo will perform, accompanied on saxophone by Sergio García.
The event is part of the A Contracultura festival, bringing back a new edition of ‘Puerto es Poesía’, a poetic‑musical show organized by the Puerto del Rosario City Council.
The first recital of the series, scheduled for Tuesday, will feature Cecilia Domínguez Luis—one of the most prominent voices in Canarian literature—and Ricardo Hernández Bravo, author of several poetry collections, notably Vivir sobre el volcán, written after the 2021 eruption of La Palma’s volcano.
This year marks the tenth edition of ‘Puerto es Poesía’, making it one of the oldest poetry festivals in the Canary Islands. Over the years it has welcomed dozens of poets from the archipelago and the rest of Spain.
Among the many artists who have taken part are Elsa López, Cecilia Domínguez Luis, Bruno Mesa, Pedro Flores, Domingo Fuentes, Tina Suárez, as well as mainland poets such as National Poetry Prize laureate Olvido García Valdés, María Ovelar, Aurora Luque, and Carlos Pardo.
