Raíz Pueblo Debuts Documentary “Guañoht, Sowing Theatre” This Friday
Raíz del Pueblo will debut the documentary “Guañoht, Planting Theatre” on Friday at 8 p.m. in the theatre hall of the association. The film traces the moments lived and shared around the stages, stories, and people who have made theatre a special part of life in La Oliva.
The screening follows the presentation of the book Guañoth in February, a publication that gathers the history, images, and testimonies of La Oliva’s theatrical heritage.
Raíz del Pueblo: The Voice of Culture in Fuerteventura
Founded as a teleclub in 1967, Raíz del Pueblo formalized its status as an association in 1979. Since then it has been a cultural engine in La Oliva, promoting local history, theatre, publications, and theatrical routes, while maintaining a strong advocacy for culture, heritage protection, and the integration of people of all nationalities.
The sociocultural association was honored by the Government of the Canary Islands in 2023 at the Distinciones Identitaria gala, an award that recognises the defence of Canarian cultural heritage. It is also declared a Public Interest Entity by the Canary Islands Government Council (2017) and received the Gold Medal of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura on its 50th anniversary.
For more than five decades, under the historic leadership of its president Concha Fleitas, Raíz del Pueblo has organised countless cultural, literary, and theatrical activities, continuously working to disseminate local history and defend cultural heritage.
