Rapid cleanup in Costa Calma clears over 110 m³ of waste in one week
The goal is to restore safety and a positive image to the pedestrian routes that connect urban spaces across the road, as well as other public areas.
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, through its Works and Machinery Service and as part of the “Fuerteventura, beautiful by nature” programme, has removed more than 110 cubic metres of waste during the first week of the shock‑cleaning operation in Costa Calma. The effort is coordinated with the Pájara City Council.
The crews face a massive task, as the initial data already show. In the first days they have cleared the drainage beneath the FV‑2 highway, removing accumulated sediments from the surrounding area and outlet mouths – an “invisible” but essential work to prevent flooding during rain.
During this first week the teams focused on clearing, pruning and tidying the main FV‑603 crossing and the landscaped zone of Costa Calma. They filled eight containers with trash and pruned material after clearing two of the eight transverse corridors that intersect the main road and after cleaning more than 1,000 linear metres of the FV‑603 road margins.
Key figures
- 3,500 m² of landscaped area cleaned, producing a total of 110 m³ of waste consisting of litter, dry vegetation and pruning residues.
- Eight containers were used to manage the collected waste.
- 1,050 linear metres of the FV‑603 road margins in Costa Calma (north‑south crossing) have been cleaned.
- Two of the eight pedestrian corridors included in the project have already been cleared; these corridors cut through the landscaped zone and were worked on within a width of 7–10 metres along their length.
The ongoing work aims to maintain the cleanliness and safety of the pedestrian pathways and public spaces that link the community.
