Recebe Train Launches Between Tesjuate and Goroy, Bound for El Matorral
The Fuerteventura Island Council, in coordination with the Antigua City Council, reviews various dirt roads
The “recebe” train of the Fuerteventura Island Council has begun rehabilitating several unpaved roads in the municipality of Antigua. This is a periodic operation, coordinated with the city council, that stretches from Tesjuate to Goroy and will continue onward to El Matorral.
The council’s president, Lola García, highlighted the work carried out by the council’s “recebe” trains to improve and keep the island’s pathways in optimal condition throughout the year.
“ roads are a fundamental part of the island’s vehicular communications, which is why we run an annual work plan, in coordination with the municipalities, that guarantees mobility for residents and visitors exploring the most authentic parts of Fuerteventura,” explained Blas Acosta, Councillor for Works and Machinery.
The Service of Works and Machinery maintains a constant schedule, with its “recebe” trains rotating across the island in an endless cycle. When large gatherings are expected—such as popular festivals, pilgrimages, or other events—the council’s technicians align their annual program with these dates to ensure safe and comfortable passage for attendees.
In the coming days, the “recebe” train will focus on resurfacing the various dirt tracks of Antigua, starting at Tesjuate, passing through Goroy, and heading toward El Matorral. The crew will remove irregularities that have developed from regular vehicle traffic and natural elements like rain and wind.
It is worth noting that a large portion of Fuerteventura’s road network remains unpaved, linking urban centers with tourist‑attraction sites. Maintaining the condition of these tracks is essential for improving residents’ quality of life and guaranteeing the best possible experience for visitors.
