Registered unemployment in Fuerteventura rises by 96 in October

Registered unemployment in Fuerteventura reached 5,439 in October 2026. This was up 1.8% on September but 2.9% below the figure a year earlier.

The number of people registered as unemployed in Fuerteventura rose by 96 in October 2026, reaching 5,439. This was a rise of 1.8% compared with September. The figures came from the Canary Islands Employment Observatory (Obecan), using data from Spain’s Ministry of Labour and Social Economy.

Despite the monthly rise, the total remained below the figure a year earlier. There were 164 fewer people registered as unemployed than in October 2025, a fall of 2.9%.

The figures show two trends in the island’s labour market: unemployment rose over the month but was lower than a year earlier.

More women than men registered as unemployed

The figures recorded 3,126 unemployed women and 2,313 unemployed men in Fuerteventura. Women still outnumbered men among those registered as unemployed.

The report also broke down unemployment generated during October by sector. It attributed 46% to services, followed by hospitality (hotels, restaurants and bars) at 26%. Retail accounted for 17%, construction for 8% and industry for 3%.

Fewer contracts signed

A total of 4,126 employment contracts were signed in Fuerteventura during October. This was down 2.5% on the previous month.

This figure counts contracts signed during the month, not people registered as unemployed. Both measures showed a weaker monthly result: fewer contracts were signed, while the number of people registered as unemployed rose.
