Restoring the El Charo Ovens
The Puerto del Rosario City Council is continuing its work to improve, adapt, and highlight the Hornos de Cal area in the Charco neighbourhood, with the aim of recovering, protecting, and dignifying this space of high historic, cultural, and patrimonial value.
Two key projects are currently underway for the comprehensive enhancement of the site:
- Installation of a new low‑voltage lighting system.
- Various environmental‑conditioning works that will strengthen safety, improve accessibility, and make the area more attractive for both residents and visitors.
These initiatives are being carried out in collaboration with Gestión de Proyectos y Estudios Turísticos en Canarias, S.A.U. MP (GESPROTUR), an entity of the Canary Islands Government’s Department of Tourism and Employment. Their support is essential for promoting projects that pursue a sustainable tourism model while respecting local heritage.
“The recovery of spaces like the Hornos de Cal not only means preserving our historic heritage, but also creating places for community gathering and enjoyment, while strengthening the municipality’s identity and tourist appeal,” said Mayor David de Vera.
“These projects reflect a clear commitment to valorise our cultural and natural resources, integrating them into the municipal tourism offer and, at the same time, improving the quality of life for the residents of the Charco neighbourhood,” added Tourism Councilor Rosa Rodríguez.
