Santo Tomás de Aquino vocational students to intern at City Hall
The City Council of Puerto del Rosario and the IES Santo Tomás de Aquino have signed a collaboration agreement that will allow vocational‑training (FP) students to carry out their practical training in various departments of the municipal administration. The pact opens the door for students to complete their learning in a real‑world work environment within local government.
The agreement sets out the conditions under which students can develop the work‑placement phase in a company or equivalent public body, integrating classroom knowledge with hands‑on experience in municipal services. As the document states, this collaboration follows the FP model that combines academic instruction with direct labor‑market experience.
“From the City Council we consider practical training an essential part of learning. Opening the doors of the institution to FP students is a way to bring them closer to the reality of public work and to accompany them in their first steps into the labour world,” said Mayor David de Vera in an official note.
The agreement will initially last four years, during which students may complete part of their training in different municipal departments, always under the supervision of tutors from the school and the City Council.
Education councilor Toñi Fdez. Aragón emphasized that the pact “allows the educational sphere to connect with the day‑to‑day operations of municipal administration.” She added that “students will not only apply what they have learned in class, but they will also discover how a public institution functions and the services it provides to citizens.”
The councilor also highlighted that such agreements “help students gain confidence, experience, and a clearer vision of their professional future,” which she considers especially valuable in the early stages of their training.
With the signing of this agreement, the Puerto del Rosario City Council continues its collaboration with local educational institutions to provide practical learning opportunities and to better prepare students for the labour market.
