Sea Conditions Intensify Further This Tuesday

Canary Islands remain on pre‑alert Monday for coastal phenomena, with waves that could reach 4 metres

The Government of the Canary Islands, through the Directorate General for Emergencies, is maintaining a pre‑alert for coastal phenomena across the archipelago from 12:00 p.m. on Monday, December 8, because waves of up to 4 metres are possible. According to a statement from the regional executive, the decision is based on information from the State Meteorological Agency and other available sources, and follows the Specific Emergency Plan for the Canary Islands for Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA). The alert mainly affects the northern coast of Gran Canaria, as well as the northern and western coasts of El Hierro, La Palma, La Gomera, Tenerife, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.

The pre‑alert remains in force due to poor sea conditions caused by a swell, with a southerly wind component expected on Monday, force 1‑3 (1‑20 km/h), together with choppy seas and a north‑west swell building up to 4 metres. Specifically, a combined sea state with waves of 2.5‑4 metres is forecast during high tide (15:30‑16:10). For all these reasons, the regional government urges the population to follow the self‑protection guidelines issued by the Directorate General for Emergencies.
