SEPRONA cracks down on illegal constructions on the island

In coordination with the Cabildo, work is underway to eradicate unauthorized settlements.

The Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) of the Las Palmas Command, together with the Environmental Agents of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura and personnel from the 4th Company of Puerto del Rosario, have carried out inspections aimed at eliminating illegal settlements, according to a press release.

Within the framework of the campaign launched by the Seprona team of the Las Palmas Command to eradicate illegal constructions and enforce territorial planning, a series of urban‑planning actions were carried out on lands classified as rustic soil in the municipality of La Oliva. This response follows an increase in constructions detected in areas of the island where such use is prohibited.

“Investigations were launched after Seprona agents detected the proliferation of illegal constructions for residential, recreational and industrial purposes on protected soils, where such uses are prohibited. These actions lead to the degradation of sensitive environmental zones, jeopardizing biodiversity and the quality of life of legally established communities,” the press release states.

As a result of the inspections, agents have filed 14 urban‑planning infractions for the irregular erection of buildings and structures intended for residential use on rustic soils that are not suitable for such development.
