Seven Thieves Arrested in Morro Jable
The Civil Guard has detained two individuals as alleged perpetrators of seven counts of aggravated theft—committed by scaling—and one count of simple theft in the municipality of Pájara, Fuerteventura.
The investigation was carried out by agents from the Morro Jable Main Station and began in early January after a surge in complaints about robberies targeting local hotels.
The crimes took place at night, while residents were asleep, and primarily affected tourists staying in the same hotel complex.
Police work uncovered a clear modus operandi, allowing investigators to locate the suspected offenders. In one of the burglaries, the thieves stole computer equipment belonging to the Bank of Spain that contained sensitive information.
Review of security‑camera footage enabled investigators to identify the vehicle used in the offenses, a breakthrough that directed the inquiry toward the suspects.
In one report, several electronic devices were reported missing, including a unit equipped with a geolocation system. The emitted signal led officers to a residential area of Morro Jable, matching the address of one of the investigated persons.
Based on this evidence, a raid was carried out on the property to confirm the presence of the stolen items and to identify those responsible.
During the operation, agents observed a woman—former partner of the main suspect—entering the building’s garage carrying a backpack. She later left the premises, prompting a surveillance operation while maintaining contact with one of the victims.
According to the information provided, the victim confirmed in real time that the geolocation signal from the stolen device matched the woman’s route.
Among the stolen items was computer material containing sensitive data from the Bank of Spain.
After being intercepted, the woman voluntarily handed over the device. A subsequent search of the surrounding area led to the discovery of the backpack, which contained the remaining stolen computer material.
The two detainees have been placed at the disposal of the courts, and the case files have been forwarded to the Guard‑in‑Duty Court of First Instance and Instruction in Puerto del Rosario.
The Civil Guard keeps the investigation open to locate and recover the rest of the stolen property and does not rule out further arrests.
