South of Puerto Lajas: New Growth Hub for the Capital
Puerto del Rosario drives urban planning in La Molina with a minor amendment to the General Plan
The City Council of Puerto del Rosario has begun processing a minor amendment to the General Urban Planning Plan for the La Molina area in Puerto Lajas. This initiative aims to improve the zoning of the sector and facilitate its orderly development.
The action responds to the need to correct errors identified in the current plan and define the area’s layout more precisely, promoting better territorial, environmental, and urban integration. The amendment will also provide a detailed zoning framework that speeds up development, adapts it to the municipality’s current needs, and safeguards the public interest.
“We continue working to improve municipal planning, providing legal certainty and enabling land to be developed in an orderly and sustainable way, always thinking of the general interest,” said Mayor David de Vera.
“These kinds of actions allow us to optimise existing planning and meet present‑day demands, contributing to balanced growth of the municipality,” the mayor added.
Urban Planning Councilor Ana Hernández explained that the amendment updates and enhances the zoning of a strategic area like La Molina, incorporating contemporary sustainability criteria, landscape integration, and urban quality.
“With this initiative we lay the foundations for coherent development of the sector, with clearer planning that will ease future management and ensure better connectivity with the surrounding environment,” Hernández emphasized.
The proposal, which has received favorable reports in its initial phase, will undergo a simplified environmental evaluation procedure in accordance with current regulations before proceeding with administrative processing.
Through this step, the City Council reaffirms its commitment to responsible urban planning, aimed at improving the territory and generating new opportunities for the development of Puerto del Rosario.
