Spain's Most Beautiful Villages in the Canary Islands Exceed 4 Million Visitors in 2025

Andalusia (8.05 million), Castile and León (6.36 million) and the Canary Islands (4.77 million) led the total volume in Spain

The municipalities that belong to the Association of the Most Beautiful Towns of Spain recorded a total of 40 million visitors throughout 2025, about 2 % more than the previous year. Of these, 71 % were domestic tourists and 29 % came from abroad.

When analysing the report, the association highlighted an almost complete de‑seasonalisation in several regions and especially in interior towns, as well as the diversity of the model across the country’s territory.

  • In the interior, towns such as Almonaster la Real or Baños de la Encina show a steady flow of visitors every month, with roughly the same number of tourists throughout the year.
  • Conversely, many areas remain strongly seasonal, particularly the coastal towns of the Mediterranean and the Balearic Islands (e.g., Peñíscola or Mojácar), which depend heavily on summer sun‑and‑beach tourism. Northern towns also suffer from high seasonality due to climate constraints.

Spring gives a boost to inland destinations, with April and May concentrating strong activity linked to historic heritage, cultural events, Holy Week and short‑range getaways.

Summer sees a clear redistribution of tourist flows toward the north and mountainous zones, where visitors seek milder temperatures and natural surroundings. Regions such as Asturias, Cantabria, the Pyrenees and parts of the Basque Country experience a pronounced summer intensity.

Territorial Distribution

Out of the 40 million visits, Andalusia (8.05 million), Castile and León (6.36 million) and the Canary Islands (4.77 million) topped the rankings, followed by the Balearic Islands, Valencian Community, Cantabria and Asturias.

Beyond these large volumes, the association emphasizes the network’s ability to generate economic activity in more than a hundred municipalities spread across Spain, strengthening rural areas and balancing tourist flows.

Regarding international visitors, France, the United Kingdom, Germany and the Netherlands remain the main source markets, with a growing presence from the United States, Portugal and Belgium in certain territories.

In the Balearic Islands and the Canary Islands, foreign tourists account for over half of the total visitors, whereas in many interior regions the share of international arrivals shows a steady upward trend.
