Speed, Strategy, and Spectacle: The 44th Marina Jandía Cup Kicks Off
Team Aqua, led by Christian Bake, tops the first day
Marina Jandía, Fuerteventura – The 44th Marina Jandía Cup kicked off with a day full of excitement and adrenaline. The trade winds provided perfect conditions for the three scheduled races, delivering a genuine sailing spectacle against the paradisiacal backdrop of southern Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands.
Team Aqua, under skipper Christian Bake and tactician Cameron Appelton, started strongly, recording a 1st, 3rd and 2nd place finish. Aleph responded consistently with 4th, 2nd and 1st. Artemis posted 5th, 1st and 5th, while Gemera tied on points, completing the early leaders’ table and making it clear that the competition will stay hot.
The Lanzarote Calero Sailing Team showed a marked improvement in its starts, but a few penalties forced it to lose ground, finishing 9th, 6th and 7th, which places it seventh overall, tied with Península Racing.
“This regatta venue is incredible, very changeable, very tactical. I’m thrilled that we can celebrate the end of the season here,” said Daniel Calero, skipper and owner of the Lanzarote Calero Sailing Team.
These days Fuerteventura is turning into the capital of high‑level sailing, thanks to the newly developed Marina Jandía sports port, with a competition that promises thrills up to next Sunday.
The 44th Marina Jandía Cup is organized by Calero Marinas in cooperation with Puertos Canarios and sponsored by the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, the Fuerteventura Tourism Board, the Pájara City Council (Sports and Tourism areas), R2 Hotels and Cicar.
