Squatters clash in the Baku area
The Civil Guard states that “it maintains a constant presence and coordinated control measures to guarantee public safety and coexistence.”
The Civil Guard of the Main Station in Corralejo has detained a man as the suspected perpetrator of aggravated assault. The incident occurred around 10:00 a.m. on January 4, when the Operational Services Center alerted patrols to a possible brawl involving a knife in the area known as Baku, an abandoned complex in the town of Corralejo.
Several Civil Guard units, supported by the Local Police of La Oliva, moved to the scene. Officers found a person with heavy bleeding from the head and a lacerated‑contused wound about fifteen centimeters long on the frontal area. An ambulance was immediately requested for urgent transport and care, while the officers secured the area and began initial investigations to clarify what had happened.
During the initial inspection, the knife allegedly used in the assault was found on the ground near the scene. Statements from eyewitnesses, later corroborated at the police station, allowed reconstruction of the sequence of events. According to these accounts, the assault occurred after a dispute among several people over economic reasons, ending with a direct attack by the now‑detained individual.
The victim was taken to the Corralejo health centre. After being attended by medical staff, a laceration on the forehead requiring ten sutures was diagnosed, along with several bruises. The victim was subsequently discharged.
With the evidence collected at the scene and identification obtained thanks to the witnesses, the officers proceeded to detain the suspected aggressor just fifteen minutes after the initial call, at the same location where the assault occurred.
The Baku area, currently abandoned, attracts vulnerable individuals as well as people linked to minor crimes in the town. For this reason, the Civil Guard maintains a constant presence and coordinated control measures to ensure public safety and coexistence. The rapid response of the patrols allowed the incident to be resolved immediately and prevented further violent episodes.
The detainee, together with the procedural actions, was placed at the disposal of the Guard Court of Puerto del Rosario on January 5, and his entry into communicated prison without bail was decreed.
