Suicide Prevention and Emotional Well‑Being Events Tour the Island

The “Talk Saves Lives” sessions will travel across the island with the participation of psychologists, therapists and artists. Therapeutic sound‑workshop sessions open to the public are also offered, with prior registration.

The Cabildo, through its Education and Youth department, continues its work on suicide prevention and the promotion of emotional well‑being among young people by organizing a series of awareness days that will visit the island’s municipalities with talks and workshops.

For four days, “Talk Saves Lives” will feature psychologists, therapists and artists who will address topics such as emotional management, self‑esteem and the use of art as a therapeutic tool in schools throughout the archipelago.

In addition, therapeutic sound‑workshop sessions will be offered to the general public. Registration is required by calling 689 882 760. The workshops will take place at:

  • Youth Island Center, Puerto del Rosario – October 13
  • Cultural Association “Raíz del Pueblo”, La Oliva – October 16

The project is funded by the Government of the Canary Islands and forms part of the Education and Youth Department’s actions aimed at emotional well‑being.

In a statement, Lola García, President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, and Candelaria Delgado, Canary Islands Youth Minister, highlighted the initiative’s importance for promoting preventive actions that foster mental health.

The goal is to raise awareness among students, teachers and the general public about the importance of mental health and suicide prevention, while building support networks among mental‑health professionals, artists and educational institutions.

“A comprehensive approach is essential to effectively address the mental‑health crisis affecting our society,” said Adargoma Hernández, Island Youth Counselor.
