Talks and Activities Through the 26th with the “8M Feminist March 2026” Program
The Puerto del Rosario City Council presented on Thursday the “8M Feminist March 2026” program, a joint initiative with the Federation of Women’s Associations Arena and Laurisilva (FAMAL). The schedule will fill the municipality with events from 5 to 26 March in celebration of International Women’s Day.
The agenda includes creative workshops, exhibitions, dynamic talks, debate tables and a child‑focused awareness campaign under the slogan “Little Voices, Big Ideas!”. The campaign ran from 12 to 26 February as a prelude to the main activities.
“March 8 is not just a date on the calendar. It is a reminder that real equality remains a collective task,” said Puerto del Rosario mayor David de Vera. “We have the responsibility to create spaces for reflection and participation, where citizens can get actively involved.”
The mayor also highlighted the coordinated work between the Equality Department and FAMAL, as well as the involvement of other municipal areas and partner organisations.
“When institutions and the associative fabric walk hand‑in‑hand, the message travels farther and resonates deeper,” he added.
Equality, Diversity and LGTBI councilor Tacoremi Gutiérrez explained that this year’s program emerges from a social context demanding “clarity, courage and commitment to hard‑won rights.” According to the program’s introduction, 8 March now carries more weight than ever amid discourses that question fundamental advances in gender equality.
Talks and Workshops (5 – 26 March)
“With this program we want to build awareness and facilitate participation. It’s not just about attending an event, but about joining a collective conversation on how we want to live and coexist in Puerto del Rosario,” Gutiérrez said.
Key activities include:
- March 5: Advocacy‑banner workshop at the Buenavista Cultural Center.
- March 12: Creative exhibition “Signed: Us” at the House of Culture.
- March 19: Talk “Good… For Whom?” at the El Charco Multipurpose Center.
- March 26: Debate table “Beyond Care”, streamed live.
8 M as an Opportunity to Create Safe Spaces
Representing FAMAL, psychologist Andrea Curbelo emphasized the pedagogical and social value of the proposed activities.
“8 M is an opportunity to create safe spaces where we can question gender mandates that permeate our lives. From a psychological perspective, many of the demands placed on women have a direct impact on emotional health,” she explained.
Curbelo highlighted the “Little Voices, Big Ideas!” campaign, which gathered spontaneous reflections from children aged 3 to 10 on equality, respect and care.
“Listening to children lets us see how these values are being built from an early age. Often, their messages are clearer and more powerful than any adult discourse,” she noted.
In a post‑presentation statement, the City Council urged residents to consult the full program via the QR code on the official poster, reminding that some events have limited seats and require prior registration through the indicated channels.
“Puerto del Rosario is once again placing equality at the heart of public debate, inviting neighbors to join, participate and claim a month that is, above all, a shared space for building a more equitable and respectful society,” the release concluded.
