Taxi cooperative calls off strike

After yesterday afternoon’s meeting of the sector’s working group, the planned taxi strike – organized by the Puerto del Rosario Taxi Cooperative – will not take place, as it was called off on Friday.

“The Puerto del Rosario Taxi Cooperative informs its members, the entire sector and the public that, following the meeting held at the Taxi Table, an agreement has been reached to hold a sector‑wide referendum that will decide the quadrant model that will organize the service,” the cooperative said in a statement.

The “Anunciantes,” one of the three taxi associations in the capital municipality, met yesterday afternoon in an extraordinary sectoral table together with other stakeholders and Mayor David de Vera.

The upcoming referendum will involve:

  • All licensed taxi holders in the municipality, each receiving one vote (one holder, one vote).
  • The sector’s salaried drivers’ association, which will cast a single vote as a representative entity.

The cooperative believes this procedure guarantees a democratic and participatory decision, allowing the sector itself to determine the system that should be applied.
