Teguerey's Taro Set for Restoration and Conservation
The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, through the Department of Infrastructure, Roads, Planning and Municipal Cooperation, has signed a collaboration agreement with the Agricultural Transformation Society (SAT) Teguerey. The pact enables the Cabildo to carry out restoration, conservation and structural consolidation works on the Taro de Teguerey, which is currently owned by SAT.
The ultimate aim is for the Cabildo to acquire the building—listed in the Traditional Architecture Inventory of Fuerteventura—once the purchase process with the owners is finalized.
“The current state of the property requires urgent intervention that cannot be delayed any longer,” explained Councilor Blas Acosta.
“Ensuring the survival of architectural heritage, especially a unique building like the Taro de Teguerey, is securing part of our Majorero identity.”
The agreement:
- Duration: Two years, renewable.
- Scope: Grants the Cabildo a provisional title to act on the property in the public interest, paving the way for later acquisition by purchase or expropriation.
