Ten new taxi licenses now active in Antigua

The Antigua City Council has awarded ten new taxi licences that have already begun operating, raising the total number of active licences in the municipality to 40. According to an official municipal statement, the move responds to a growing demand from both residents and tourism businesses.

  • The new licences expand public transport coverage across the municipality.
  • They are expected to create at least 20 new jobs for drivers.

Mayor Matías Peña García and Transport Councilor Agustín G. Rodríguez welcomed the owners and drivers of the newly granted licences on Friday.

“These ten new licences not only improve transport service in the municipality of Antigua but also guarantee the creation of more than twenty jobs,” said Mayor Peña García. He added that the concession means better transport service and job generation for the community.

Councilor Rodríguez highlighted the quality of the service:

“We are providing a quality service with a renewed fleet of vehicles,” he noted, thanking the predecessor who initiated the procedure.

With this addition, Antigua strengthens its taxi fleet and aligns its transport offering with current population demand, in coordination with transport sector professionals.
