Ten New Trainee Officers Join Tuineje Local Police

With this action, the municipal government team reaffirms its commitment to responding to the municipality’s security demands.

The Tuineje City Council incorporated ten new Local Police officers on Tuesday as trainee civil servants. Once the training period ends, they will be eligible to become permanent career officials in the municipal staff.

The oath‑taking ceremony was held in the plenary hall of the Town Hall and was attended by Mayor Candelaria Umpiérrez, councilor for Primary Sector, Traffic and Local Police Jonathan Peña, the Canary Islands Government’s Minister of Territorial Policy Manuel Miranda, accompanied by the President of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura Lola García, as well as police officials and municipal representatives.

“This staff expansion represents a decisive commitment by the current governing team to strengthen the human resources of the Security area, adapted to municipal reality,” Mayor Umpiérrez said.

Umpiérrez added that during the previous legislative term the municipality had an insufficient Local Police force for Tuineje’s needs. The addition of these trainee officers marks the beginning of a path toward providing the municipality with the necessary personnel stability.

“Currently, the municipal Local Police team has thirteen officers, and these new incorporations will allow us to guarantee a closer, more effective service tailored to the security needs demanded by the municipality of Tuineje,” explained Councilor Peña.

Minister Miranda thanked the collaboration of the Tuineje City Council and noted that two of the new agents come from the 2023 unified recruitment program of the Canary Islands Government.

“These kinds of actions enable the Government of the Canary Islands to support local administrations in better performing their duties and, especially, to offer citizens a higher‑quality security service,” he added.

President García concluded by praising the work of the island’s police forces.

“Today is an important day because these new agents come to reinforce that excellent work, so that Fuerteventura can remain a tranquil island—our ultimate goal for the well‑being of our citizens.”
