Tenants denounce public support for Fit Experience Fest over its link to Desokupa

Background and Accusations

The Fit Experience Fest in Tenerife has once again sparked protests over the institutional and financial backing it receives, a backing that the Tenants Union of Tenerife (Sindicato de Inquilinas) says is linked to the Desokupa environment. In a statement, the union accuses the Cabildo of Tenerife, the Government of the Canary Islands, and the Santa Cruz City Council of financing the “institutional white‑washing” of groups that, in its view, “live off intimidation.”

“The festival, presented as a ‘family‑friendly and inclusive’ event, is merely a propaganda runway for companies tied to illegal evictions,” the union wrote.

The most controversial episode dates back to 2024, when the first edition of the Fit Experience Fest featured the company Desokupa, which offered a self‑defence demonstration. Inquilinas recalled that the festival “served to present the Desokupa Club before it began training police,” with “Daniel Esteve and neo‑fascist Daniel Jacare as instructors.”

Although the Fit Experience Fest is officially a sports and leisure event with no direct link to Desokupa, the union ties it to Daniel Esteve, founder of the eviction‑services firm, who publicly acted as ambassador and commercial representative for Life Pro Nutrition, the event’s organizer. Tickets are sold at €12.

Other activities of the Desokupa Club and the Desokupa News social‑media program—both led by Esteve—have listed Life Pro as an “official sponsor,” offering discounts on its nutritional products.

A 2025 screenshot published by Diario Red shows Daniel Esteve promoting Life Pro products.

Even though the festival has not featured Desokupa or related entities in recent editions, the union argues that being organized by a brand that markets through such influencers is enough to merit condemnation.

In its communiqué, the union states that the Fit Experience Fest “is nothing more than a propaganda runway for companies that are the economic backbone of the most violent far‑right.” It adds that at this point it can no longer be called “negligence” but must be labeled collaborativism.

The union also notes that, aside from the entities it denounces, Life Pro collaborates with numerous athletes and content creators to promote its products and events.

Desokupa Operators Convicted of Homicide

The Tenants Union characterises eviction‑service firms as “a business model that directly fuels those who use the aesthetic of muscle and terror to harass the most vulnerable.” It points out that courts have recently sentenced members of several such organisations to prison for coercion, threats, intimidation, attempted homicide, and even murder.

Specifically, the union cites Desokupa Ahora, which was involved in an attempted murder of a tenant who failed to pay the full rent in Arona. The incident dates to 2023, when, during the forced eviction of an occupied dwelling, the two convicted men severely assaulted the victim, who was paying €300 in rent.

The Superior Court of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC) confirmed in mid‑April a sentence of 11 years in prison for the two evictors. According to the digital newspaper Atlántico Hoy, the perpetrators wanted the victim to leave the property and, after a series of visits and threats, attacked him “armed with an iron bar.” The report added:

“They struck him repeatedly on the head and body, even when he was already on the ground and defenseless.”

The union clarifies that Desokupa Ahora has no apparent connection to the original Desokupa company, and Daniel Esteve has publicly denied any relationship between the two entities.

Call for Withdrawal of Public Support and Funding

Inquilinas of Tenerife demands:

  • Immediate removal of any public sponsorship or support for events linked to companies that sponsor coercive groups;
  • Full transparency on the amount of public money poured into the festival; and
  • An ethical commitment from public institutions to bar entities that, in the union’s view, “violate human rights or collaborate with organisations condemned by the courts.”

The union describes the public backing as a “social betrayal,” accusing administrations of “watering the festival with subsidies and logistical aid,” thereby normalising the extrajudicial eviction industry.

Public procurement records reveal contracts related to the festival through companies such as Indiex Sport Nutrition Spain S.L. and Life Pro Nutrition Spain S.L.

  • The Santa Cruz City Council awarded Indiex Sport Nutrition Spain S.L. a sponsorship contract for the Fit Experience Fest worth €15,515, published in January 2025.
  • The Government of the Canary Islands issued a smaller contract for the “Fit Experience Fest” amounting to €5,350.

These contracts are listed on the festival’s official website, which also shows public entities as sponsors.

The Fit Experience Fest 2026 is scheduled for Saturday, 9 May, at the Maritime Park of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
