Following the trail of countries such as Australia and France in digital child‑protection measures
The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, unveiled on Tuesday a package of five measures aimed at tackling abuses by major digital platforms and guaranteeing a safe online environment.
Speaking at the World Governments Summit, Sánchez declared that “social media have become a failed state, where laws are ignored and crimes are tolerated.”
He assured that Spain will ban access to digital platforms for users under 16 years old, obliging these platforms to implement effective age‑verification systems. This requirement is already included in the draft law on protecting minors in digital environments, which is currently being processed in the Congress, and aligns with steps taken by other nations such as Portugal and France.
