The Cabildo finalizes preparations for the Grand Taifas Ball on May 29

Event overview

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura is putting the finishing touches on the Grand Taifas Dance, scheduled for Friday, May 29, at the fairgrounds of Puerto del Rosario. The event is organized by the Island’s Department of Culture together with the Puerto del Rosario City Council. This year the doors will open at 19:15 to ensure a smoother flow of the programme.

Officials on site

President of the Cabildo Lola García, Mayor of Puerto del Rosario David de Vera, Culture Councilor Rayco León, and area councilor Juan Manuel Verdugo inspected the preparations earlier today.

  • A traditional award ceremony will honour those who actively keep these costumes alive.

  • Opening performance by students of the Island School of Music (this edition’s venues: Valles de Ortega and La Oliva).

Statements

“The Grand Taifas Dance is the most attended event for Canary Islands Day across the entire archipelago and serves as the climax of the ‘May 100 %’ programme that the Cabildo has organised to celebrate who we are and to highlight our traditions and artistic expressions,” said President Lola García.
“May the young, hand‑in‑hand with the elders, feel proud of our Canarian and Majorero identity.”

“This event is one of the most anticipated by the whole population of Fuerteventura. We must recognise the excellent organisation by the Cabildo’s Culture department, the other involved bodies, and the Puerto del Rosario City Council, as well as local police, security forces, civil protection, community groups, and everyone who contributes to making it possible—especially the Majorera community, which always responds to this special day,” García added.

Mayor David de Vera thanked the Cabildo for its effort, calling the Grand Taifas Dance “an event to celebrate and value our identity and our deep connection to the territory.”

Culture Councilor Rayco León explained, “After an intense month of Canary‑focused programming, we close with this Grand Taifas Dance, sharing a special night of music and customs.”
