The Importance of Responsible, Local Consumption

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura, through its Department of Commerce headed by Lolina Negrín, has launched the fourth edition of the “I Buy in Fuerteventura” campaign, in partnership with the Federation of Urban Areas of the Canary Islands (FAUCA).

According to Negrín, the Cabildo is allocating €400,000 to implement the program, which uses incentives to promote responsible and local consumption and to continue supporting the island’s economy.

“I Buy in Fuerteventura offers consumers the chance to purchase €20 consumption vouchers. The buyer pays only half of the amount, while the remaining €10 is funded by the program. This will provide a 50 % saving for anyone who shops at participating establishments,” the island’s councilor explained.

Key details of the initiative

  • Voucher value: €20 each
  • Consumer contribution: €10 (50 % of the voucher)
  • Program subsidy: €10 per voucher
  • Maximum vouchers per person: 15 (a valuable opportunity for families)
  • Launch date for consumers: 4 November
  • Total vouchers on sale: more than 31,700
  • Economic injection: €742,000 into Fuerteventura’s economy
  • Participating merchants in the previous edition: 223

Negrín encouraged all interested businesses to register via www.yocomproenfuerteventura.com.

During the presentation, Nuria Cabrera, Councilor for Economic Promotion, highlighted the campaign’s role:

“It is a campaign that has become an effective tool for energizing the island’s economy, strengthening our SMEs, and encouraging local consumption in Fuerteventura.”

Abbas Moujir, president of FAUCA, praised the Cabildo’s Department of Commerce for the growing success of the initiative:

“In the last edition, 223 merchants participated. This time, over 31,700 vouchers are on sale, translating into a €742,000 injection into Fuerteventura’s economy.”

Other attendees included Evelyn Pérez, Councilor of Commerce for the Tuineje City Council; Juan Jesús Rodríguez Marichal, president of the Fuerteventura Chamber of Commerce; and representatives from the Puerto del Rosario Business Association, the Commercial, Business and Professional Association of the North (Empronor), the Antigua Business and Merchants Association (Aecca), and the Small and Medium Enterprise Association of Tuineje (La Gavia).
