The New Cupra Tindaya Triumphs at the Munich Fair

The municipality of La Oliva has become an international protagonist following the launch of Cupra’s new model, the Tindaya. The automotive brand chose the sacred mountain of Tindaya on Fuerteventura to name its latest vehicle, which was unveiled at the IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich. The presentation puts La Oliva in the global spotlight and highlights the singular, pristine natural environment that characterises the area.

By doing so, the image of the island as solely a “sun‑and‑beach” destination is being expanded to promote other attractions in Fuerteventura, especially the sacred mountain of Tindaya in La Oliva. This initiative stems from the work of the municipal Tourism and Environment Department, led by David Fajardo, since the beginning of the current legislative term.

The aim is to foster a form of tourism that respects the environment and showcases facets of the municipality beyond its coastline:

  • Year‑round sporting events.
  • Local traditions and customs, highlighted by the opening of the Castillo del Tostón and, more recently, the Aljibe del Veneno and Redonda.
  • Natural sites such as the Tindaya mountain itself, underscoring a new paradigm that positions Fuerteventura as a multifaceted tourist destination.

“This is a unique opportunity to showcase the municipality. From the City Hall we are proud that the new Cupra bears the name of the most special mountain of the municipality, the Tindaya mountain. With this, we emphasize what the car brand has rightly recognized: Fuerteventura is much more than ‘sun and beach’, a perspective we have been working on since the beginning of the term and will continue to work on.” – Isaí Blanco, Mayor of La Oliva

“The goal is simply to put on the table the other qualities of La Oliva, such as sport, tourist points of interest and, of course, our landscape, which is more than our well‑known beaches.” – Isaí Blanco, Mayor of La Oliva

“The new Cupra ‘Tindaya’ gives La Oliva an unparalleled international projection. The brand is betting on the sacred mountain that highlights the authenticity of this natural enclave, and, just like the tourism‑environment duo, we aim to promote the municipality, not only for our kilometres of golden‑sand beaches but also for many other qualities of La Oliva, such as sport, Majorero tradition and, of course, nature and the care for our environment.” – David Fajardo, Councilor for Tourism and Environment

Cupra’s decision places La Oliva at the centre of an international conversation, with the sacred Tindaya mountain now featured on the global automotive stage.
