The Pope Won’t Visit Fuerteventura

All sources consulted indicate that he will visit Gran Canaria first and then Tenerife.

Pope Leo XIV, the American Robert Francis Prevost, the 267th pope of the Catholic Church and the ninth sovereign of Vatican City since May 2025, will not visit the island of Fuerteventura on his upcoming trip to Spain that will include the Canary Islands.

The successor of Peter on the Catholic throne is expected to travel next summer, although some anticipate a June departure, depending on how his agenda evolves.

Authorities in the Canary Islands have expressed the opportunity to highlight the migration drama, with both ecclesiastical and secular leaders saying they could help find solutions or at least empathize with the problem.

Pope Leo XIV has taken a firm and compassionate stance on migration worldwide, being especially critical of the “inhumane” and “extremely disrespectful” treatment of migrants in the United States, his country of origin.

In this regard, Leo XIV calls for dignity, compassion, and policies that balance security with human rights, urging Catholics to be “bridge‑builders” and to offer assistance, even criticizing the hypocrisy of those who claim to be pro‑life yet support anti‑immigrant policies.
