Thief arrested, convicted of Caleta de Fuste robbery, then released
The Civil Guard of Puerto del Rosario detained a 30‑year‑old man on the afternoon of 30 August as the alleged perpetrator of a burglary with scaling at a hotel complex in Caleta de Fuste.
Details of the robbery
- Timeframe: Between 12:15 p.m. and 13:15 p.m. on the same day.
- Method: The suspect climbed the perimeter wall and used an air‑conditioning unit to reach a balcony about 3.5 m high, then entered an open window on the second floor.
- Stolen items:
- A high‑end titanium watch.
- Two gold rings (one set with diamonds, valued at €1,500).
- Clothing.
- Electronic devices, including AirPods Pro identified by serial number.
- Total value of the loot: Approximately €3,500.
Investigation and arrest
After the victim filed a complaint, the Civil Guard conducted an on‑site inspection and focused the investigation on the digital trace of the stolen electronics.
17:00 h: Officers located part of the stolen material at a residence in Puerto del Rosario, where it had been purchased by the occupants.
Using this information, they identified the suspect’s possible whereabouts and organized a mixed team of uniformed and plain‑clothes officers to prioritize his capture before the items could be sold on the illegal market.
18:30 h: The suspect was intercepted on San Roque Street in Puerto del Rosario while carrying several of the stolen objects—clothing, both gold rings, and the titanium watch—which were later recognized by the victim.
Additional recovered items, not yet sold, included a backpack and the keys to the victim’s home and vehicle, found in a vacant lot near the hotel complex. This allowed authorities to retrieve almost the entire loot, providing strong evidence of the suspect’s involvement.
Legal outcome
The detainee was presented before the Guard Court of Puerto del Rosario on 1 September. Following a summary trial, he was convicted of burglary with scaling and subsequently released.
