Third Chacho League edition to draw over 1,200 attendees in Puerto del Rosario

The third edition of the school tournament Chacho League will be held on 12 February from 09:00 h at the Francisco Melián football field in Puerto del Rosario. Organisers expect to gather over 1,200 participants, including sports teams, educational groups and the general public.

The event is driven by the Higher Cycle of Physical Conditioning at IES Puerto del Rosario and will bring together high‑school students and 3rd‑ and 4th‑year ESO pupils from every secondary school on the island of Fuerteventura. It enjoys the backing of the Department of Education and Youth of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the Puerto del Rosario City Council.

Chacho League is a school competition with an innovative format inspired by the King League, blending football, music, dance and spectacle. The tournament runs in parallel across two distinct leagues:

  • ESO league – for 3rd‑ and 4th‑year ESO students.
  • High‑school league – for bachillerato students.

This edition welcomes IES Blas Cabrera Felipe from Lanzarote as an invited school.

High‑school students from IES Puerto del Rosario will design and perform the opening and closing choreographies. As a complementary activity, a showcase of the vocational training cycles offered by the host school and the other participating institutes will also be presented.

“Created by the students themselves and it has grown to this year to include participation from Lanzarote,” said Adargoma Hernández, Councilor of Education and Youth. He added his gratitude to the school’s management for the confidence placed in teachers and students to bring the project to life.

“The league promotes values such as coexistence and respect among young people across Fuerteventura,” highlighted María del Carmen Montelongo, Director of IES Puerto del Rosario, emphasizing the high participation of the island’s schools and the collaborative work of students and teachers.

“The event is expected not only in the capital but throughout the island,” affirmed Jenifer Pérez, Youth Councilor of the Puerto del Rosario City Council, reiterating municipal support for initiatives of this kind.

The organizing team thanked the institutional backing and announced that this edition extends its programme to the afternoon and has increased participation. A school from Tenerife has already expressed interest in joining the next edition.

The Chacho League also benefits from the involvement of a participant in the New Employment Opportunities 2025 programme, co‑financed by the Canary Islands Employment Service and the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+ Canarias 2021‑2027), together with the Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the Government of the Canary Islands through the FDCAN.

Consolidated as a reference sporting and educational event, the Chacho League continues to grow as a youth meeting space that combines sport, training and spectacle, reinforcing values such as respect, camaraderie and teamwork.
