Three local police officers secure their posts in Antigua
Antigua has permanently incorporated three new officers into its Local Police force. The officers officially assumed their permanent civil‑service positions during a ceremony held at the town hall, and the mayor stressed that no service commissions outside the municipality will be approved.
The Antigua City Council celebrated the swearing‑in of three Local Police officers as career civil servants on Thursday, completing the consolidation process for their posts. During the ceremony, Perla H.A., Joama M.M. and Sergio C.N. pledged to fulfill their duties as local police officers, formally taking on their responsibilities in service of the municipality. The event took place in the main hall of the Consistory and was presided over by Mayor Matías Peña García, accompanied by the chief inspector of the Local Police, Domingo Fránquiz, municipal corporation members, fellow officers and family members.
According to an official municipal statement, the mayor congratulated the new officers and their families on achieving job stability, emphasizing the importance of providing a close, responsible, and citizen‑collaborative service.
“We will not accept requests for service commissions outside the municipality of Antigua,” Mayor Matías Peña García announced during the ceremony. “This decision is necessary to avoid reducing the number of available personnel, given the current limitation of posts and officers in the Local Police.”
The mayor’s declaration reflects the council’s effort to maintain adequate staffing levels within the local police force.
