Three men arrested for smuggling 877 kg of hashish into Fuerteventura via a drug‑laden boat

Operation “Puerto Nuevo”

The “Puerto Nuevo” operation was made possible thanks to the collaboration and information exchange with the General Directorate of Territorial Surveillance of the Kingdom of Morocco (DGST).

On December 10 2025, the Civil Guard detained three men for attempting to bring 877 kg of hashish onto the island of Fuerteventura using a narcolancha (a semi‑rigid boat).

The investigation began after Moroccan authorities provided intelligence that led the Guard to monitor a criminal group based on the island. Over several weeks, agents identified a planned drug shipment and determined that the night of December 10 would be the chosen moment for the smuggling attempt. A special interception unit was deployed to the southern coast of Fuerteventura to seize the cargo and arrest those involved.

During the operation, agents noticed an unusual surge of activity in the area, coinciding with the approach of an eight‑meter semi‑rigid vessel equipped with an out‑board motor. Shortly after the boat landed, a large commercial van was seen speeding away from the beach. The van was intercepted, and its three occupants were taken into custody.

Seized Materials

  • 23 jute bales containing an estimated 877.1 kg of hashish.
  • Two land vehicles and the narcolancha used for transport.
  • Several telephone terminals and geolocation devices.

Following the investigation, the three detainees were placed before the First Instance and Instruction Court No. 8 in Puerto del Rosario (Fuerteventura) and were ordered to be transferred to the Tahiche Penitentiary Center on Lanzarote.
