The mayor has been asked to provide the documentation of the process
The Provincial Prosecutor’s Office of Las Palmas has formally requested the Antigua City Council to deliver an authenticated, indexed and paginated copy of the construction‑license file and any other documents related to the installation of a telecommunications antenna in the Camino de las Piletas area.
This request comes amid the controversy surrounding the erection of a telecoms antenna in the town of Antigua. Intense pressure from local residents, followed by a meeting that involved the mayor, regional ministers and the installing company, led to the suspension of the tower’s installation.
When contacted, the mayor of Antigua confirmed the prosecutor’s request and emphasized that every step taken in the matter was carried out in strict compliance with the law, with the support of the municipality’s legal department, which acted as a mediator between the neighbors and the installing firm.
“Precisely because we were so careful with the procedure, many criticisms arose among the residents, but we have always been clear that our management had to be impartial mediation, flawless, as it has been and will remain evident in the process,” explained Matías Peña, mayor of Antigua.
