Tomás Acosta Cabrera, 50 Years Leading the Most Sacred Tradition
Antigua and its village Los Alares congratulate and celebrate with Mr. Tomás Acosta Cabrera his 50th anniversary as Commissioner of the Mancomún.
As always, amidst the crowd gathered in the Plaza of Los Alares for the patron saint festivities, Mr. Tomás Acosta Cabrera was surprised from the stage by a call from the mayor of Antigua, Matías Peña García, asking him to come up.
The mayor—himself a livestock farmer and a longtime friend of Mr. Tomás—awaited him with a recognition plaque, marking the milestone of fifty years serving as Commissioner of the Mancomún.
“I have the honor of presenting you with this plaque,” the mayor declared, “on behalf of the municipality and its people, with the affection and closeness forged through countless shared gatherings, livestock meetings, barbecues, and many other meetings and the long road traveled to improve the conditions of the coastal goat, respecting the Mancomún and aiming to preserve a tradition that belongs to countless generations.”
Mayor Matías Peña García and the people of Los Alares thus honored Mr. Tomás Acosta Cabrera on Saturday night with a unanimous applause, expressing affection, closeness, and countless memories. They celebrated the son, father, grandfather, neighbor, friend of everyone, livestock breeder, and goat herder of the highest honor—steady‑eyed in his duties, smiling, with a wry sense of humor—the respected and beloved Tomás Acosta Cabrera for his fifty years as Commissioner of the Mancomún.
