Tourism Board Uses 97% of Its Budget
The 2025 Management Report of the Tourism Board of Fuerteventura shows an execution rate of 97.41 %. This figure is highly significant for both the tourism sector and the local economy, as the budget has been invested in destination promotion abroad as well as in local organisations and events with tourism relevance.
“We prioritise budget execution because we know it energises the sector.”
Leadership Comments
The president of the Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Lola García, praised the work carried out to make the island an innovative and sustainable tourist destination, reaffirming the commitment to quality:
“We must keep betting on improving our offer rather than building, and, above all, ensure that the benefits of the tourism industry are distributed throughout the local economy.”
Tourism counsellor Marlene Figueroa explained that the Board’s strategy has been focused on designing a calendar of budgetary actions that generate positive impacts for the sector and facilitate the “local return” of that investment.
“We prioritise budget execution because we know it energises the sector, and we are also aware of the importance of circulating the Board’s tourism investment for the island’s local economies and suppliers.”
In this context of a high execution rate directed toward actions that benefit local economies, the Tourism Board of Fuerteventura closes the 2025 fiscal year with 97.41 % of the budget already executed, paid or processed for payment release.
Actions with Local Return
The 2025 roadmap set by the Tourism Board included:
- Around 30 on‑site promotions abroad (trade fairs, professional days).
- Approximately 10 fam‑trip and press‑trip collaborations with inbound market agents and journalists.
- Subsidies for about 15 local organisations and events that have tourism impact beyond the island.
International and National Promotions
Direct promotions at fairs and professional events were carried out throughout 2025, always in partnership with Fuerteventura’s tourism agents and in commercial alliances with outbound‑market agents. Notable national venues included:
- Oviedo, Santander, San Sebastián, Madrid, Barcelona, Málaga, Sevilla
Key international venues included:
- Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Berlin, Helsinki, Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm, Cannes, London, Dublin
In all cases, Fuerteventura was present with its own stand or as the sole host, a formula that strengthens the destination’s image and showcases the sector’s unity.
Fam Trips and Press Trips
The Board supported about a dozen delegations of tourism agents and specialised journalists. In 2025, visitors came from:
- United States, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, among others.
Direct Support for Local Events
The 2025 budget also funded roughly fifteen local events that attract attention beyond the island and serve as tourist draws, such as:
- Corralejo Kite Festival
- Gran Tarajal Open‑Sea Fishing Competition
- Beach Party
- San Miguel Juried Festivities
- Achipencos Regatta in Betancuria (the most beautiful town in Spain)
- Winsurf & Windfoil World Championship
These initiatives illustrate how the Tourism Board’s spending is deliberately channelled to generate tangible benefits for Fuerteventura’s local economy and its tourism ecosystem.
