Two Arrested After Stealing From 31 Cars

Gang that stole from rental cars in Lanzarote and Fuerteventura dismantled

The Civil Guard of Lanzarote delivered a major blow to crime in the tourist areas of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura after detaining two individuals accused of committing 31 burglaries inside rental vehicles. The suspects, captured on 17 September, are linked to 24 completed thefts and 7 attempted ones.

According to official sources, the perpetrators mainly targeted parking lots frequented by tourists, taking advantage of visitors’ absence to smash car windows and steal valuable items. The investigation began after a surge in complaints in these zones, prompting the Civil Guard to deploy a special surveillance unit that enabled the location and arrest of the alleged offenders.

During the operation, agents recovered numerous personal belongings, which have already been returned to their rightful owners. The detainees and the police reports have been handed over to the Guard Court of Arrecife.

The Civil Guard reminds citizens of the importance of not leaving valuables in plain sight inside vehicles and recommends manually checking that doors and windows are properly closed to prevent the use of frequency‑jamming devices by criminals.
