Two arrested for labor exploitation scheme at a Corralejo hotel

The National Police have concluded an investigation in Fuerteventura that uncovered a corporate network allegedly dedicated to the exploitation of foreign workers in irregular administrative situations and to document falsification at a hotel in Corralejo, La Oliva.

Police operation

The operation began on 26 November 2025 after a joint raid by the Local Immigration and Borders Brigade of Puerto del Rosario, in collaboration with the Labour and Social Security Inspection of Las Palmas, at a hotel in Corralejo.

During the raid, officers identified thirteen foreign workers in irregular administrative status; eleven of them performed cleaning duties while “lacking residence and work authorization in Spain.” As a result, an infringement notice was issued against the responsible company and its sole administrator for violating immigration and labour regulations, with proposed fines totaling €117,969.31.

Modus operandi

Subsequent investigations revealed a fraudulent modus operandi based on the successive creation of commercial companies. The aim was to maintain the illegal employment of foreign workers continuously, making administrative control difficult and illegally reducing labour costs as well as obligations related to Social Security and occupational‑risk prevention.

Document falsification

The probe also uncovered evidence of document falsification, including the fraudulent use of third‑party identities and the manipulation of official records from the General Treasury of Social Security. These actions were intended to simulate legality and conceal irregular hiring.

Arrests

On 23 January 2026, two individuals were detained as alleged perpetrators of a crime against workers’ rights. The sole administrator was additionally charged with document falsification. The detainees have been placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority.
