Two Businessmen Arrested for Crimes Against Workers
They paid €50 a day “under the table” to employees who were not contributing, violating labor legislation.
The operation was carried out on September 23, with the collaboration of the Labor and Social Security Inspection (ITSS) of Las Palmas. Two inspections were conducted, uncovering a total of three foreign workers who lacked work and residence permits in Spain.
The month‑long investigation concluded with the arrest of two entrepreneurs—one from the hospitality sector and another from an auto‑repair shop—who were held responsible for offenses against workers’ rights.
Authorities verified that the employees received €50 per day, with no vacation or sick leave, and were paid only if they showed up for work. In addition, they suffered payment delays and were not provided with adequate protective equipment, breaching occupational safety regulations. One worker was even injured on the job and did not receive medical attention.
The defendants have been referred to the appropriate court, ending a practice that violated labor law and jeopardized employee safety.
