Two explosive mortar shells discovered inside a Corralejo home

The Civil Guard discovered two mortar projectiles containing explosive material inside a house in the Atalaya Dorada urbanization, Corralejo (Fuerteventura), on 15 April while executing a judicial operation.

In an official statement, the Guard explained that the objects, which displayed characteristics consistent with military‑origin material, were first identified by the officers on site, who immediately alerted the explosive‑disposal specialists (GEDEX). After an initial assessment through photographs, the specialists confirmed that the items were potentially dangerous, prompting the activation of the security protocol.

The area was secured until the experts arrived to mitigate any risk. Once on site, it was verified that the 50‑mm caliber projectiles contained explosive charges, and they were subsequently removed for safe destruction.

The Civil Guard reminds the public: if a possible explosive device is found, do not touch it; instead, keep a safe distance and notify the Guard or emergency services. All military‑grade material is strictly for the use and possession of the Armed Forces, and any other use is prohibited.
