Two Illegal Workshops Shut Down, Eight Uncontracted Workers
The Local Police of Puerto del Rosario carried out, on the morning of Tuesday, February 3, two inspections in collaboration with the National Police’s Immigration and Borders Brigade and Labour Inspection officers. The operations resulted in the sealing of two workshops in the capital of Fuerteventura.
First Inspection
- The raid took place at a vehicle‑repair workshop on Calle Juventud, which had previously been sealed by a municipal order.
- Inspectors found that the seal had been broken and that seven people were working inside.
- None of the workers were registered with Social Security; five of them were in an irregular immigration status in Spain.
“The workshop was operating completely outside the legal framework, endangering both workers and the environment,” the police reported.
Legal Actions Following the First Raid
- The Local Police filed a report with the Prosecutor’s Office of Puerto del Rosario for an alleged crime of seal violation.
- Additional complaints were lodged for breaching the Municipal Environmental Ordinance due to the accumulation of hazardous waste and highly contaminating products.
- The seal was re‑installed, the case file was forwarded to Urban Planning Discipline, and an unauthorised exterior surveillance camera was removed.
Second Inspection
- The second operation targeted a workshop on Calle Cisneros.
- Officers placed a precautionary seal on the premises because the business lacked a valid operating licence, had accumulated contaminating waste, and posed a risk to people and property.
- Environmental and urban‑planning violations were also reported for this site.
Labour Violations Identified
- During the second raid, a worker in an irregular immigration situation was identified.
- An expulsion file was opened against him, and his employment was reported for working without a contract or Social Security registration.
Police Statement
The Local Police of Puerto del Rosario, which shared the operations on its social networks, emphasized the need to strengthen controls on legality, occupational safety, and environmental protection throughout the municipality.
