Venezuela's “new” regime begins freeing political prisoners
Release of Spanish Prisoners
Four Spanish detainees have already been freed in Venezuela, diplomatic sources reported on Thursday after National Assembly President Jorge Rodríguez announced the release of a “significant number” of inmates without giving a precise figure.
The released individuals are the Basques Andrés Martínez Adasme and José María Basoa, the Canary Islander Miguel Moreno, and the Valencian Ernesto Gorbe.
“It is a unilateral peace gesture and it was not agreed with any other party,” Rodríguez said, thanking former Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero for his mediation.
U.S. Senate Blocks New Military Action
In a parallel development, the United States Senate voted 52‑47 to pass a resolution that bars President Donald Trump from launching any new military operations in Venezuela without prior congressional approval, dealing a significant blow to the Republican administration.
