Vessel in distress east of Fuerteventura

Without definitive radar confirmation, a signal from an irregular vessel is believed to be about 35 nautical miles southeast of the La Entallada lighthouse.

After more than three months of inactivity in rescue operations along the Majorero coast, authorities have detected a possible drifting immigrant boat east of Fuerteventura.

The rescue vessel Salvamar Izar is currently heading to the reported location, roughly 35 nautical miles southeast of the La Entallada lighthouse.

It is worth noting that, in 2026, migration activity to the islands has dropped by almost 80 % compared with the same period last year. This sharp decline is largely attributed to migration policies implemented by the European Union, the Spanish government, and the Canary Islands authorities.
