Woman dies after being rescued from sea with drowning signs in Fuerteventura

A 44‑year‑old foreign woman died on Thursday after being rescued from the sea with symptoms of drowning at Valle de Santa Inés beach, in Aguas Verdes, in the municipality of Betancuria.

The incident occurred at around 14:42, according to the Canary Islands Government’s Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) 112.
The alert was raised by several swimmers who pulled the woman from the water unconscious and showing signs of drowning, after she apparently fell into the sea from some rocks.

While emergency resources were being mobilized, beachgoers began performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR on her.

To the scene arrived a medicalized ambulance and a basic life‑support ambulance from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), a helicopter from the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES), units from the Prevention, Fire‑fighting and Rescue Service (SPEIS) of the Fuerteventura council, as well as officers from the Civil Guard and the Local Police.

The GES helicopter dropped the rescuers on the same beach, where they continued the resuscitation efforts.

Upon arrival, SUC medical staff found the victim in cardiopulmonary arrest and, despite advanced resuscitation measures, were unable to reverse the condition, confirming her death.
