Woman Dies After Cardiac Arrest on Caleta de Fuste Beach
A woman died on Tuesday after being rescued from the sea in cardiac arrest at Caleta de Fuste beach, in the municipality of Antigua, according to the Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) 1‑1‑2 of the Government of the Canary Islands.
The incident occurred at 13:14 when the 1‑1‑2 emergency line received an alert that a woman had been pulled from the water unconscious and not breathing. She was initially attended by the beach lifeguard.
The coordination center immediately dispatched a medicalized ambulance and a basic‑life‑support ambulance from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), and mobilised units from Fuerteventura Emergency, the Local Police and the Civil Guard.
SUC health personnel performed both basic and advanced resuscitation maneuvers, but were unable to reverse the situation; the death was confirmed on site. The Civil Guard took charge of the necessary investigations to clarify the circumstances of the incident.
Statement from the 1‑1 Islands Coordination Center: “The emergency services responded promptly, but despite all resuscitation efforts, the victim could not be revived.”
