World’s Elite Bodyboarders Take on the Legendary King Frontón Wave
The wave at El Frontón in Gáldar hosts the final stage of the Gran Canaria Frontón King 2025, where the IBC Bodyboarding World Tour will crown the men’s and junior world champions on 25 October, featuring six contenders for the absolute title and a strong Canarian presence.
Gran Canaria is back on the global map with the Frontón King 2025 event. After a week of competition, the decisive day will be 25 October on the legendary El Frontón wave in Gáldar. The contest gathers 128 riders from 15 countries and concludes the World Tour season with the crowning of the absolute‑men’s and junior champions. At El Frontón, spectators and athletes share one of the most powerful waves on the planet.
Maximum Competition on the Most Powerful Wave
The edition arrives with six riders vying for the absolute world title:
- Uri Valadão – current ranking leader
- Armide Soliveres – reigning world champion
- Pierre‑Louis Costes
- Tristan Roberts
- Badr Eddine
- Gabriel Braga
The field has proven demanding and versatile, offering clean days with optimal size for deep tubes and aerial maneuvers.
Local talent also made its mark. Daniel Quintana and Borja Granados logged some of the best waves in the opening days, while William Luján stood out in the inaugural round of the absolute category thanks to his intimate knowledge of the break. In the junior division, Louka Zaniotto and Cristóbal Tobar shone with high scores and solid consistency.
The Fight for the Title Ignites
When the top 16 riders entered the competition, Soliveres, Costes and Roberts surged ahead as leaders of their heats. Valadão, Eddine and Braga remain in contention and must survive the repechage, a format that leaves room for comebacks and raises the competitive tension as the final rounds approach.
The junior bracket has advanced to the quarter‑finals, featuring a strong Canarian presence alongside a broad international field. Néstor Reyes and Alberto Pérez are still alive in the title chase, joined by athletes from Chile, Peru, Italy, France and Australia.
Sustainability and International Impact from the Canary Islands
Beyond the sporting level, the organizers have highlighted their commitment to sustainability in multiple press releases: the entire technical‑sport infrastructure runs on solar energy, making the event a Canary pioneer in using exclusively photovoltaic power for judges, audiovisual production and technical operations.
Frontón King is presented as an outward‑looking showcase for Gran Canaria and the Canary Islands, acting as a catalyst for the northern island’s local economy through sports tourism and the global diffusion of high‑impact imagery. Institutional support from Turismo de Gran Canaria, the Instituto Insular de Deportes, and the Ayuntamiento de Gáldar underpins a model that blends elite sport with sustainability.
The competition runs until **25 **, when the new world champions will be announced in Gáldar.
