World's Most Advanced Catamaran Could Sail the Morro Jable Route

It is the Mercedes Pinto from Balearia, powered by liquefied natural gas

For next May, the delivery of the catamaran “Mercedes Pinto” is scheduled – according to sources from the company quoted by puentedemando.com – with which Balearia Canarias will begin a new phase in the archipelago, assuming it has by then taken control of the Armas Trasmediterránea Group as expected.

“On any of the routes where the new vessel operates – most likely the maritime bridge between the capitals or the Morro Jable line – it will be a real game‑changer, being the most modern high‑speed ship in the world and powered by liquefied natural gas. Its undeniable appeal to passengers will mark a before‑and‑after in high‑speed maritime communications,” says Puente de Mando.

The project represents an investment of €128 million, with capacity for 1,200 passengers and 400 vehicles. Built at Astilleros Armón in Gijón, the vessel was launched on 19 September.
