25,000 Attendees Enjoyed the 37th Island Handicraft Fair 2026
Sales Exceeded Forecasts by 90 % of the 200 Artisans Present
The Antigua City Council and the Mafasca Collective Foundation hailed the 37th Island Handicrafts Fair as a resounding success. Held over the weekend, the event attracted 25,000 visitors, according to official security reports, and sales surpassed expectations, reaching 90 % of the projected volume for the 200 participating artisans from across the Canary Islands.
“This fair highlights the regional character of Canary Island craftsmanship,” said Culture Councilor Jonathan Peña.
A steady flow of visitors—mostly residents of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, along with numerous tourists—enjoyed perfect weather, live concerts, and musical performances. No incidents were reported, and the public showed a strong commitment to purchasing handmade items. Margarita De Vera, spokesperson for the Mafasca Collective, noted that many stalls ran out of the purchase bags allocated by the organizers.
The event also received praise for the professionalism of the participating businesses, the dedication of municipal staff, and the comprehensive security plan. The plan involved the Civil Protection services of Antigua and Betancuria, emergency services, and the Civil Guard.
“The involvement of the Antigua Local Police, led by Sub‑Inspector Chief Domingo Fránquiz, ensured a safe and smooth event,” highlighted Mayor Matías Peña.
Overall, the fair was celebrated as the premier gathering for Canary Island handicrafts, reinforcing its importance for local culture and tourism.
