A massive haze plume drifts north ahead of a scorching weekend

Temperatures rise from this Wednesday and all signs point to continued increase at least until Tuesday the 26th

Change of trend in the islands’ climatology with the shift away from the trade winds, and for the first time this spring the influence of the African ridge reaches the archipelago. Consequently, wind intensity decreases and, in an initial “blow,” a large plume of dust bypasses us to the north toward the Iberian Peninsula. Some suspended dust could arrive on Sunday afternoon, but only in trace amounts.

Temperatures will keep climbing, reaching up to 30 °C in many parts of the island by Sunday. Regarding sea conditions, wave height will increase and waves up to 3 meters can be measured on the west and north coasts of Fuerteventura; swimmers are advised to exercise great caution.

Much Heat to End May

All models indicate that from the weekend onward the temperature rise will be the trend, exceeding 30 °C in some areas and with a high likelihood of dust haze, weak easterly winds, and strong influence of the African ridge over the islands. Models suggest this pattern will persist at least until Wednesday. Note that these are one‑week forecasts and become less reliable; we will remain vigilant.
